No one would question you if you said that you were going off to the gym for a few hours to crank out a bunch of rep's weight lifting.
Well, you can think about going to a Ski area the same way.
The object here, would be at least 2 points of personal skills and abilities improvement applicable to skiing:
1) to find and identify ones own capacity for stamina, then adjust your energy output to find your own sustainable rythem to match your pace to your stamina.
ie: you don't run out of energy during your day on the slopes.
2) Develop an Increase in your own sustainable capacity for stamina.
This is facilitated to one degree or another by Multi-Day stays at the Mountain, when you can take training advances and apply them, for all the benefits of repitions, over an extended period of time.
When you think about it, this is more or less, exactly what you do at the GYM, you do a bunch of repitions in SETS, and you make ADVANCES over time.
